The Slow Climb is a Boston based band that delivers energetic folk-inspired tunes infused with touches of jazz, blues, rock, and funk. Born out of a Craig’s List call-for-musicians, the initial meeting happened over Zoom, during the Omicron wave of the pandemic. The Slow Climb was brought to life when an immediate creative connection was formed between Matt Spignese (Guitar, Vocals, Keyboard), Richard Chen (Lead Guitar and Producer), and Scott Schoen (Drums).
In Richard’s home studio, the band immediately got to work on recording an album. Songs that were ideas a decade ago began to evolve with the collective creativity that was fostered within this new group.
Stripped down acoustic folk songs were molded into neatly polished arrangements. The Slow Climb’s first album (Out There; March 4, 2023) deep dives into personal yet relatable topics, and is the product of 12 months of collaboration. It takes a blend of Richard Chen’s and Scott Schoen’s classical training, with Matt Spignese’s self taught and sometimes rough around the edges style, to create something wholly original. Rob Loesher (Bass) is the latest addition. After having spent years performing as a solo acoustic act, he now brings this experience and energy to The Slow Climb as a more than welcome addition to the overall sound.
